Huizenga amends legislation to protect West Michigan jobs passes House
Last night, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 8998, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, by a vote of 210-205. This legislation included an amendment from Congressman Huizenga addressing the Biden-Harris EPA's misguided ozone attainment rule that unfairly punishes three West Michigan counties – Berrien, parts of Allegan, and parts of Muskegon – for pollution generated in cities, such as Chicago and Milwaukee, across Lake Michigan that travels to West Michigan.

Muskegon Lake’s 240-unit housing development back on city agenda after wetland delays
MUSKEGON, MI -- After several starts and stops, the waterfront housing development nestled between Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake is back on the table. An updated version of the Sand Docks, formerly The Docks, will be reviewed by the Muskegon City Commission on Tuesday, July 23, at its 5:30 p.m. meeting. The planning commission unanimously approved the recommendation earlier this month.
Michigan swimmer to make third solo Lake Michigan crossing attempt
A 60-year-old endurance swimmer from Byron Center, Michigan, plans to “finish what he started” last summer by making a third attempt to swim alone across Lake Michigan. Jim “The Shark” Dreyer Thursday announced his plans for the 82.9-mile attempt, explaining the self-sufficient journey will begin (weather permitting) on Aug. 6, 2024, and will require him to tow over 200 pounds of supplies and navigate on his own. He will start from McKinley Beach in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and swim to City Beach in Grand Haven, Michigan.

Joyce F. Dark, age 93, of Spring Lake, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 22, 2024. She was born on August 30, 1930, in Zeeland, Michigan, to the late Gerrit and Sena (Walters) Blauwkamp. Joyce married John “Jack” Dark on June 7, 1975, and he preceded her in death on October 26, 2017.
15 different vessels have visited port this year
Our harbor has now seen deliveries by 15 different unique vessels so far this season. Last Thursday afternoon, the motor vessel Robert S. Pierson delivered a load of stone to Meekhof’s D&M on Harbor Island. It was the Pierson’s first visit of the season.
