Search for two missing swimmers on Candlewood Lake

DANBURY, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - There's a search underway on Candlewood Lake for two missing swimmers in the area of City Island.

Around 10:30 p.m. Monday night, Danbury Fire was dispatched to Candlewood Lake for a report of two missing swimmers.

It was reported two males had jumped off a boat in the area of City Island.

Rescue boats utilized sonar and underwater imaging equipment in an attempt to locate the individuals.

The search was suspended around 2:30 a.m. for the night.

Mutual aid dive teams from Danbury Police, Brookfield Police, NUSAR and Region Five were deployed. Additional rescue boats from Danbury, Brookfield, Sherman, New Fairfield, NUSAR, Region 5, Candlewood Lake Authority and Ball Pond responded to assist with the search.

Brookfield PD’s air drone was also deployed.

Multiple agencies are returning this morning to resume search efforts.

DEEP is taking lead on the investigation.
