Gold Medal winner speaks at First Shot Ceremony
The Civilian Marksmanship Program's First Shot Ceremony on Monday served as the traditional start to the century-old National Matches. The 117th National Matches will run through Aug. 10 at the Camp Perry National Guard Training Facility, featuring smallbore rifle, air gun, pistol, highpower rifle, vintage rifle and long range rifle events for adults and juniors.

SANDUSKY— On Tuesday, Sandusky police hosted a summer ice cream social event at Foxborough Park. Officers handed out popsicles to kids at the neighborhood greenspace. “We take great pride in our relationship with the community,” Sandusky police Sgt. Bronson Lillo said. “These types of events, especially geared toward the kids, are really important to us.”
Pick up some pottery, paintings
PORT CLINTON —Through July, three potters and one painter will exhibit and sell their works at the Port Clinton Arts Garage, 317 W. Perry St. The potters — Valerie Crow, Lori Hughes and Jeanette Oleksa — have pottery pieces ranging from traditional to pottery using a raku technique to what is known as outsider art.

VERMILION TWP. — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle injury crash that occurred Wednesday evening on Ohio 60 at Mason Road in Erie County. A 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by a 67-year-old Huron woman was traveling eastbound on Mason Road when she failed to yield to traffic from the stop sign, according to a release from the patrol.

Sandusky commits $881K for sidewalks
SANDUSKY — Sandusky officials are taking some major steps to improve some of the city’s worst sidewalk sections. During a recent public meeting, city commissioners committed about $880,700 to fix roughly about 55,000 square feet of sidewalk. It translates to roughly 1,000 linear feet of sidewalk throughout the city.
Avon Lake man injured in two-vehicle crash in Milan Township
A 62-year-old Avon Lake man was seriously injured July 17 in a two-vehicle crash in Milan Township, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Troopers responded at 2:54 p.m. on state Route 113 at Kelley Road in Milan Township for the crash involving a motorcycle and a truck.
