DANDRIDGE, Tenn. (WATE) — Firefighters in Dandridge responded to a post office after it was struck by lightning on Wednesday.

Dandridge Fire Chief Andy Riley said the strike happened at the post office located in the 1100 block of Academy Circle. When crews arrived, they found a lightning strike had destroyed an internet cable.

Riley said there was no active fire inside the electrical room where the cable was, just a slight haze.

The lightning strike reportedly left a burn mark on the wall where the cable was and caused some damage to the building’s electrical panel.

Riley shared that the post office is waiting for an electrician to repair the damaged equipment before the power can be turned back on.
