Summer camp teaches Madison girls about construction careers
Middle school aged girls in the Madison area will explore the construction trades, architecture and engineering fields with a week-long summer camp. The Associated General Contractors of Wisconsin and its member organizations are hosting the second “She Builds Wisconsin” summer camp at the Commercial Avenue Campus at Madison Area Technical College. The week-long camp is free and designed for middle school aged girls to learn about the industry through hands-on activities and field trips.
CARES sees Sun Prairie expansion
Madison’s Community Alternative Response Emergency Services (CARES) program is expanding to Sun Prairie, which will be the first Dane County municipality to divert a portion of its emergency calls from police to Madison-based teams with training to handle people experiencing crises related to mental health or substance abuse, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The 12-month pilot project with Madison’s CARES program was approved by Sun Prairie’s City Council unanimously on Tuesday. Roughly 123 calls there are expected per year.
Sun Prairie man arrested for shots fired in Blooming Grove
Dane County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of shots fired on the 4100 block of Milwaukee Street in the Town of Blooming Grove at 5 p.m. on Monday, August 5. It was reported that a male operating a white Mercedes cargo van fired a shot at the occupants of an Audi Q8. Both drivers left the scene, but deputies did recover evidence of the crime.
