Generation Schools Network (GSN,) a Colorado based nonprofit that increases access to equitable learning experiences by partnering with a diverse network of education stakeholders to ensure all students have the opportunity to thrive, announced today that the Panther Path in Walsenburg, Colorado is now officially open to the public. The community turned out in a big way for the ribbon cutting celebration of Southern Colorado’s newest hiking, biking and walking trail which features a 1.5 mile trail with 10 workout stations.

After a long COVID Delay, the Panther Path in Huerfano County was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony last Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 3 p.m. Students, teachers and community leaders were there to celebrate and students who won the path naming contest cut the ribbon.

In 2018, the Huerfano school district formed a Health and Wellness Committee composed of district employees, community members and students to evaluate best health practices, implementing new programming that elevates student wellness and continue community partnerships to support the district’s goal of increasing health equity for ALL. Out of this came funding for a walking/biking/exercise path that is a 1.5 miles community trail that is free and features 10 work out stations. This trail is ADA compliant and will be a daily source of education and exercise for the community.
