Seven Husker football standouts and a state college All-American comprise the 2024 class of the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame announced Thursday. The 2024 inductees were chosen by members of the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame, which is sponsored by the Nebraska Chapter of the National Football Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame. The 2024 Hall of Fame class will be officially inducted banquet Sept. 13 in Lincoln and recognized the following evening at the Huskers’ home game against Northern Iowa.
Brandenburg Blast Gives Fremont Walk-off Win

Man sentenced for role in Grand Island Best Buy theft spree
One of four men charged in connection to a grab-and-dash at a Grand Island Best Buy last year has been sentenced. Huthaifa Mesfin, 21, was sentenced Friday to three years in prison on one count of criminal attempt of theft by unlawful taking. He was given credit for 113 days served.

Big innings doom Mud Hens in 18-4 loss at Omaha Storm Chasers
PAPILLION, Neb. — The Toledo Mud Hens surrendered a pair of three-run home runs in the middle innings and fell 18-4 to the Omaha Storm Chasers on Saturday at Werner Park. The Mud Hens (42-49) never led at any point and twice saw one-run deficits balloon on one-out blasts by the Storm Chasers, who eventually put the game away with an eight-run seventh inning. Cam Devanney’s home run off Toledo starter Bryan Sammons gave Omaha a 5-1 lead, capping a four-run fourth inning. Drew Waters’ three-run blast pushed the Storm Chasers ahead 10-4 in the sixth inning, ending another four-run burst. Omaha’s Nelson Velazquez (three doubles) and Tyler Gentry each were 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while John Rave (2 for 4) added a two-run triple in the seventh inning.

Two former Huskers to play in minor league All-Star Game
Two former Nebraska baseball players will play in a minor league all-star game later this month. Max Buttenback and Case Sanderson will represent the Great Plains Division in the Northwood League All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 23. Buettenback is the league leader with a .442 batting average and ranks second in on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. He is also tied for fourth with four homers and sits seventh with 38 RBI while recording eight doubles and scoring 29 runs in 30 games for the Willmar Stingers. Sanderson is hitting .363 with six doubles and three homes in 21 games for the La Crosse Loggers. He holds nine multi-hit games and has accounted for four four-plus runs in seven of the 21 games. The game will occur at ISG Field in Mankato, MN, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Nebraska’s Berke Büyüktuncel to play in FIBA U20 Eurobasket
A Nebraska sophomore will be in action in an international tournament this weekend. Berke Buyuktuncel and the Republic of Tukiye will play in the 2024 FIBA U20 EuroBasket in Gdynia, Poland. Turkiye will face Belgium, North Macedonia and Spain in the group stage. The tournament will start with a game against Belgium on Saturday. Isaac Trotter of 247Sports spoke very highly of the skilled big man. “Really liked Berke Buyuktuncel’s film at the FIBA U19 World Cup last year. Freshman year at UCLA didn’t work out, but Nebraska is an ideal landing spot.
