DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Danville enjoyed Sunday’s beautiful weather with boat races on the lake.

It was the final day of “Thunder on the Vermilion.” Crowds gathered on land while boaters hit the water.

Organizers with the Marine Racing Club of Illinois said the event is growing each year. This weekend, 15 drivers and nearly 50 boats came out. They said people traveled in from places like Indiana and Wisconsin.

“The Marine Racing Club [is] putting this race on — the Marine Race Club of Illinois. And we’re running the stock category and the modified category and the junior category. So, we’ve got kids out here as young as nine years old, and we’ve got adults. You can run until you can no longer kneel down in your boat,” Secretary Treasurer Michael Mackey said.

No worries if you missed the action this weekend. He said they’ll be hosting another event on August 16 – 18, about three hours north in Rock Falls, Illinois.
