Ricky Thornton-Hudson O'Neal Tangle Drama-Free at Port Royal Speedway
Hudson O’Neal was running second. The driver he replaced last month as driver for SSI Motorsports, Ricky Thornton Jr., was third and itching to move up. But the battle of the two closely-connected rivals ceased before it could really heat up in Saturday’s 50-lap Rumble by the River finale at Port Royal Speedway. Thornton’s turn-four slider on lap 18 resulted in contact that ultimately knocked O’Neal from contention and inflicted body damage to Thornton’s Koehler Motorsports car that likely contributed to him settling for a runner-up finish behind $50,000 winner Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga.

Girl Tiger Cubs Race at the Grand Prix
The Greencastle Lady Tiger Cubs competed in the Fountain Central Grand Prix this past weekend held at Veedersburg. The Tiger Cubs placed 6th overall out of a field of nine scoring teams. Standout Performances were Sophomore Colleen Bossnack(22:34 Time) and Freshman Lydia Miller(23:50 Time) who placed 9th and 13th overall respectively earning podium recognition. Other runners include Sophomore Adelyn “Addie” Moore with a 27:06 time in her first cross country meet. She was followed closely by Junior Eliana Dinn(31:58 Time), Freshman Charlotte “Charlie” Hall(36:36 Time), and Junior Anastasia “Asia” Graham(43:46 Time) who improved upon her previous time by over 2 minutes. The Tiger Cubs Race on Wednesday at the Stuart Bennett Invitational.

Carmel resident donates historic dollar bill to Ernie Pyle museum
A Carmel resident found the perfect home for an artifact that had been in her family for decades. Dr. Angie Bethel presented a $1 bill signed by World War II war correspondent Ernie Pyle to the Ernie Pyle World War II Museum on behalf of her parents, Doyle and Elvie “Bobbie” Bethel. The presentation was made Aug. 10 at a ceremony during the annual Ernie Pyle Fireman’s Festival in Dana, Pyle’s hometown.
