    Why are Kentucky flags at half-staff on Thursday?

    FRANKFORT, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday to honor a Kentucky Department of Corrections officer who died on July 25.

    Officer Hunter Scott Miller, 24, of Danville, Kentucky, died after an incident that occurred while training for a special response team at the Northpoint Training Center.

    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at The Showroom in Danville.

    According to his obituary , Miller was born in Frankfort in 2000 and is survived by his mother and sister.

    He was a 2018 Mercer County High School graduate who was known for “his friendly nature, infectious laughter, and love of hunting, fishing, and kayaking,” the obituary reads. Miller reportedly loved his job as a correctional officer at Northpoint Training Center where he had served for two years.

    “His memory will forever be treasured by those who knew and loved him,” his obituary said.
