Hartsville man charged with arson after weekend mobile home fire
HARTSVILLE, S.C. (WBTW) — A Hartsville man has been charged with arson in the wake of a Sunday blaze along Sparrow Swamp Road. George Edward Matuse Jr. was charged with second-degree arson. Darlington County Sheriff James Hudson Jr. said he’s to blame for setting fire to a mobile home. No further information was immediately available.

Father, son now in jail following Florence gun theft
FLORENCE, S.C. -- A second suspect in the May 12 burglary and gun theft at Palmetto State Armor is now in custody. Benjamin Lee Mercer Sr., 51, of 130 Lands End Drive, Darlington, was arrested Friday and charged with second-degree burglary, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, grand larceny, criminal conspiracy, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen pistol, according to a release from the Florence County Sheriff's Office.
Company in Aiken getting $124K federal clean energy grant
AIKEN, S.C. - An Aiken business is getting a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant, part of more than $600,000 coming to South Carolina clean energy projects.
