As Covid-19 vaccinations head into their fifth month, the largest vaccination site in the state opened Monday in Cumming, Georgia. In February, the health department opened a site at the Cumming Fairgrounds, which allowed several hundred people to get the vaccine. Now, the old Earth Fare building in the Collection on Ronald Reagan Blvd is open for Covid-19 vaccinations.

The new location, run by PCG Molecular LLC, is scheduled to receive 2,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccinations. And the best news for those who have been hammering websites and sitting on hold on the phone is that no appointments are necessary. The site at The Collection in Cumming, Georgia, will be open from 8 am to 5 pm seven days a week.

According to Armando Moncada, MD FCAP – Chief Medical Officer for PCG Molecular, patients will be able to choose between Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, as long as supplies last. It will be interesting to see how many choose the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after the Cumming Fairground suspended its distribution of the J&J vaccine last month after a handful of people had adverse reactions.

It should be noted that hundreds of the vaccines were distributed at the fairgrounds and tens of thousands across the state with no problem. The Georgia Department of Health says the reactions were consistent with common reactions in adults receiving any vaccine but says it paused the vaccinations out of an abundance of caution due to the number of people affected. Most of the people I know personally, including my wife and I, have received two doses of the Moderna vaccine with little or no reaction.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is evaluating incidents in Georgia, Iowa, Colorado, and North Carolina and issued a release that said, “it has not found any reason for concern.”

The new facility at the Collection in Cumming, Georgia, will be cleaned and sanitized throughout the day, and a doctor, ambulance, and EMT responders will be on-site at all times. If desired, you can be tested for Covid-19 in a separate area of the building or get a single-use at-home test kit. If you choose to be tested on-site, you can get the results in as little as half an hour. You can also order an at-home test from PCG Molecular directly.

If you are concerned or need help choosing which vaccine is right for you, the Georgia Department of Health has released fact sheets for the Moderna, J&J, and Pfizer vaccines.

Despite the fact that no appointment is necessary, PCG Molecular does have a site that allows you to make an appointment and choose which vaccine you desire.
