Free laundry day at Dartmouth laundromat to give back to the community. How to take part.

Is your laundry piling up? With nearly 20% of Americans not having a washer or dryer in their home, many people rely on laundromats or hand-washing their clothes. It can get overwhelming quickly if you don’t have at-home resources to wash your dirty clothes.

Knowing that a owning washer and dryer is not a privilege that everyone has, Dash Laundromat is hosting its second annual Free Laundry Day.

“I just really wanted to give back to the community. We have been doing well for the two years we have been open, and want to show our thanks,” said Jason Araujo, one of the owners of Dash Laundromat .

    When is Free Laundry Day?

Araujo and his partner Mike Sousa, are hosting the event from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at their laundromat at 1 State Road, Dartmouth.

You get one free wash per person from any size washer, which varies from 20 to 80 pounds, and drying is free all day. All you have to do is download the Speed Queen mobile app and enter the location code DASH01.

Their first Free Laundry Day opened their eyes to how much of a need there was for this type of community event.

“One customer comes to mind from last year’s event, a mother who came up to us with tears in her eyes saying she had been washing their clothes in the bathtub and how happy she was to have clean clothes again,” said Araujo. “That’s why we do it.”

Last year, on a day filled with heartfelt appreciation, over 400 wash cycles ran. This year they hope to wash over 600 cycles.

What else is happening during the event?

If you are signed up for the laundromat’s Speed Queen mobile app, you will get a $10 credit to use on your next visit.

Blue Point Restaurant in Acushnet is donating hot dogs that will be given out during the event, and Del’s Lemonade will handed out to cool you off. To liven things up, radio station WFHN 107.1, Fun 107, will be broadcasting live throughout the day.

Dash is also partnering up with Walt’s Mobile Closet for an undergarment clothing drive. They are accepting new unopened bras, underwear, and socks to give back to the community.

“We are trying to do whatever we can to give back to the community that has helped us grow as a business,” said Araujo. “I can’t wait to see you all.”
