RI Arsenal firing canons later this week

If you hear a lot of noise coming from what sounds like downtown Rock Island and/or downtown Davenport later this week, don’t worry. The Arsenal is just firing the cannons.

Residents may hear cannon fire from Rock Island Arsenal on Thursday and Friday, August 1 and 2, around 2 p.m., according to a news release from the Arsenal. Three volleys will be fired on Thursday during a rehearsal and 11 volleys on Friday during a promotion ceremony at Quarters 1 on the North side of the island.
