Salty Hobo in St. Andrews to reopen as new, revamped concept

    2024-03-04

The end of an era. That's how it was described by some locals when they heard that popular St. Andrews bar "The Salty Hobo" was closing. The bar first opened in late 2018, replacing the defunct "Watershed" bar. Thru those five years, the establishment went thru multiple phases and grew with its clientele. First opening for a community recently devastated by Hurricane Michael and looking for places to come together and bond, then operating as a restaurant complete with "social distancing" during the Covid-19 Pandemic, and most recently shedding it's smoky exterior during evenings and weekends as the bar pushed cigarettes to the outside patio. The final change came last week, when the bar announced via Facebook that it would be closing on 3/2, with their final event being a performance by Josey Scott's Saliva.

Well, change is still in the air as owner Bobby Beard announced via Facebook that the bar will soon be reopening as a new concept. "We have a great location and an exceptional team that I admire for their dedication and skills, knowing I couldn't do what they do. We have everything in place to start again.. so why not? As we close this chapter, we're taking a step back to make long-awaited improvements to the building and addressing maintenance issues. We have the permit in place and a couple of awesome contractors lined up to make the changes fast. We should be reopened in 2-3 weeks, with fresh energy and excitement for the next five years." Beard said. Exciting change for sure for the St. Andrews area, I can't wait to what is in store.
