Florida Chicken Restaurant closed after inspection reveals Raw Sewage

    2024-08-22

It's a rough week for staff and management at a Florida Chicken restaurant after a health inspection reveals, among other things, raw sewage draining onto the restaurant floor.

The restaurant in question is the Popeye's Chicken on 15th st. in Panama City, FL. The establishment is located at 1302 W 15 St in Panama City, FL. Health inspectors showed up for a routine inspection on Friday, Aug. 9 2024. During the inspection they found raw sewage on the floor of the restaurant. In addition, they found chicken juice from thawing chicken draining in the walk in cooler into a drain to outside with a broken pipe and liquid pooling on the ground. Because these violations are considered "high priority," the restaurant was closed. According to the Florida Departmentof Business and Professional Regulation, high priority violations are those which could contribute directly to a foodborne illness or injury.

In addition to the two high priority violations, the business was cited for several basic violations including missing molding by their prep area, an exterior door with a gap by the threshold, standing water on the floor, a non food contact area soiled with grease, food debris, dirt, slime, or dust and an objectionable odor outside behind the chicken walk in cooler. In total, six violations were recorded by the inspector that closed the establishment on an emergency order. According to DBPR records, the restaurant complied with the provisions of the callback order and was reopened to the public later on the same day.
