SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — Firefighters orchestrated the water rescue of a deer Sunday morning in Sacramento County. Crews were able to safely catch a deer swimming in the canal, bring it ashore and place it in the care of Sacramento County Animal Care Services, the fire district said. In her sixth successful ride, Jeanette Mero can finally claim the most coveted title in endurance riding: the Tevis Cup. The Mariposa, CA native completed her 100-mile journey to Auburn's McCann Stadium at 10:05 p.m. Saturday night to win the 68th Tevis Cup, finishing with a final time of 17 hours and five minutes. Mero had been a consistent top ten finisher at Tevis for several years now and won the Haggin Cup in 2021, but a first place finish had eluded her until this year.
