Rockford could backtrack on former Kmart, U-Haul property vote
Rockford Ald. Gina Meeks, D-12, is having second thoughts about her vote to reject a plan to redevelop a former Kmart property. And she may not be alone. Rockford City Council voted 10-2 to deny a special use permit and code variations sought by Orput Companies Inc. for the redevelopment of the U-Haul-owned 15-acre property at the corner of State Street and Mulford Road.

Company That Owns Illinois Pizza Huts Files for Bankruptcy
The struggle continues for many food franchises as a company that owns many Pizza Hut locations in Illinois has reportedly filed for bankruptcy. Nation's Restaurant News reported today that EYM Pizza L.P. has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the eastern district of Texas Monday. They said this pizza company "operates units in the South and Midwest". According to their corporate site, that includes Pizza Hut locations in Illinois.

Illinois deputy showed shooting, killing Springfield woman in newly released body camera footage
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Body camera footage detailing the moments before and after an Illinois sheriff's deputy recently shot and killed a Springfield woman was released Monday. The footage shows now-former Deputy Sean Grayson, 30 and white, pulling his gun on Sonya Massey, 36 and Black, in her Springfield, Illinois, home after deputies responded to her 911 call about a possible prowler on July 6. Grayson has since been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and official misconduct in the shooting and is in custody without bond.
