Historic Dayton Donut Shop to Undergo Remodel This Summer

A Centerville donut shop is set to receive an interior remodel this summer. As first reported by the website Dayton.com , Bill’s Donut Shop, located at 268 N Main St, in Centerville, will get some upgrades that include replacing the flooring in the customer area, along with some new countertops and cabinets in the display cases. Along with the minor cosmetic improvements, the business will also install a new point-of-sale system that adds functionality for customers who pay by card, as well as the ability for customers to utilize payment options like Apple Pay for purchases.

Another change happening during the remodel is the addition of a designated online order pick up area, which will allow customers who have placed orders online to avoid waiting at the in-person order counter in order to pick up their baked goods.

Bill’s Donut Shop opened in 1960 and moved to its current location in 1979, and is owned by Marshall Lachman and his wife Amy, who purchased the business last September. The couple raised their children in Centerville and Marshall tells What Now Columbus that he’s long had ties to the business, since his kids grew up going to the donut shop. When Bill’s Donut Shop was up for sale, the couple, who have operated other small businesses, saw it as the perfect investment opportunity.

“It’s a tremendous brand and the goal is to be here another 45 years and keep giving people what they expect,” Lachman said.

Lachman said that the business is usually closed during the week of July 4th, but this year, the shop is planning to close from July 7 through July 17 for the renovations. If all the improvements aren’t implemented during those ten days, Lachman said the business plans to re-open on schedule and continue the remodeling efforts, with the goal of having the project completed no later than August 1.
