DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Students from all over the Miami Valley attended the annual Summer Peace Camp at the Dayton Peace Museum this week.

Taking place during the entire last week of June, the camp teaches students mindfulness, how to form friendships and how to express themselves through art.

The museum and other student volunteers lead the camp, working to educate young people into future leaders and responsible citizens.

When parents arrived to pick up their kids on Friday, the students put on skits and a talent show to show the bonds they’d made and lessons they’ve learned.

“The gifts that I receive while doing it — I just feel inspired by their hope and their joy and their optimism,” said Alice Young-Basora, director of education at the Dayton Peace Museum. “I learn a lot from them, so I can’t wait for next year.”

If you missed Peace Camp this year, the museum offers year-round programming for students K-12 called “Peace 101.” Click here to learn more.
