The spokesperson for Montgomery County Job and Family Services confirmed to 2 NEWS that Montgomery County, along with other counties, have noticed an increase in fraud, as well as electronically stolen benefits.

Impacted people could include Family Assistance clients who receive EBT, SNAP or cash.

Although the spokesperson told 2 NEWS the fraud source has yet to be identified, the organization recommends impacted individuals contact their local agency to receive a new card.

Residents of Montgomery County who are impacted are required to contact the investigation and recovery unit of JFS at 937-225-6035. The call will begin the resident’s journey to reportedly have benefits replaced.

“Ohio recently approved a process for issuing replacements for electronically stolen benefits,” said the spokesperson. “Victims must work with their county agency to apply for replacement benefits and to request a replacement EBT card.”

According to a spokesperson for the Dayton Police Department, law enforcement has recently received reports regarding EBT fraud.

If you are an impacted resident, immediately change your PIN and file a theft report with your local police department, the spokesperson said. To request a new card, call 1-866-386-3071 for SNAP or 1-866-320-8822 for cash.

The CardLock feature on the ConnectEBT app helps clients lock their card when not making a purchase. Once a transaction has been approved, it is suggested by JFS to re-lock their card.
