    CJ’s Nick Wissman becomes highest-drafted Flyer in program history

    DALLAS, Texas (WDTN) – Former University of Dayton pitcher and Chaminade Julienne alum Nick Wissman was selected in the eighth round at pick No. 240 overall to the San Diego Padres in the MLB Draft on Monday.

    The Flyers hurler becomes the highest draft selection in the history of the Dayton baseball program.

    He is the final selection of the Jayson King era, joining Riley Tirotta (Toronto Blue Jays, 2021), Mariano Ricciardi (Oakland Athletics, 2021) and Mark Manfredi (Milwaukee Brewers, 2023).

    Wissman, a six-foot-one right-handed sidearm reliever, finished his final season as a Flyer with an 11-1 record, seven saves, a 2.92 ERA, and 64 strikeouts to just 11 walks.

    In addition to becoming the first Dayton baseball player to win A-10 Pitcher of the Year, he was also the first to be named to multiple All-American teams.

    Wissman is the 12 th Dayton pitcher to hear his name called in the history of the program and is the second to call the Padres his organization, joining 13-year MLB veteran Craig Stammen, who pitched for San Diego from 2017-2022.
