DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — If you have recently been craving candy, you might want to celebrate a holiday.

As every day is designated as a holiday on National Today’s website , July 18 is considered National Sour Candy Day. The American Licorice Company founded the holiday in 2015.

In 1954, the rollout of The Atomic Fireball began the craze of sour candy, followed by Lemonheads and Warheads in the decades after. In the years after, candies like Sour Patch Kids, Toxic Waste, Zots and more were released in stores.

According to Jon Prince, president of CandyFavorites.com , companies are continuing to find new ways to change the world of sour candy.

“The candy has gotten sourer, and the packaging has changed,” said Prince. “Whether it be hard candy like Warhead or something crazier, the manufacturers keep looking for ways to make trying the candy crazier.”

If you haven’t tried sour candy but have considered it, Prince suggested individuals should start with something simple.
