DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The Montgomery County Animal Resource Center is asking for urgent help from the public after taking in over 30 dogs on Friday.

On July 19, the ARC assisted the sheriff’s office and removed 33 dogs from a property. The shelter is over maximum capacity, and is in urgent need for people to help by adopting and fostering dogs.

Due to active investigation, the 33 dogs taken in on Friday cannot be adopted, fostered or rescued while ARC determines where the dogs came from. But there are multiple other ways to help the animal shelter:

    Adopt

Dogs are up for adoption daily. Adoption fees are $20, and include spay/neuter surgery, initial vaccines including rabies, heartworm testing and treatment, a current year licenses & microchip, and access to free monthly training classes.

The ARC is located at 6790 Webster Street, Dayton. The shelter is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is needed.

    Foster

The shelter is also looking for people to foster animals. In order to do so, click here to sign up, watch a short orientation video and take a quiz before emailing the shelter. The shelter will get in touch with you to match you with a dog. Food and basic supplies are provided to foster homes, along with vet care.

    Donate

The ARC is asking for donations of crates/kennels, leashes, collars, food bowls, food and treats.

    Rescue

If you already foster for another organization or work for an animal rescue, call the ARC Outreach Specialist at 937-264-5462 to get involved. If you are not yet a rescue partner, click here to sign up.

Due to the capacity situation, the ARC announced they will be temporarily impounding dogs by court order only.

“Please continue to reach out to us for help with lost and found services including scanning for microchips, filing lost & found reports and supplies to assist when someone finds a dog,” ARC said.
