DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Dayton’s annual Celtic Festival has officially launched in the heart of the Water Street District.

It’s one of the biggest events in the Miami Valley and organizers are expecting a big turnout throughout the weekend. From food and drink to live entertainment, there’s a lot to experience all weekend.

The 2024 Dayton Celtic Festival is back in full swing, offering a chance to experience the rich traditions of Celtic heritage.

Organizers are expecting 70,000 people to attend throughout the weekend.

“Hoping maybe with the Dragons, maybe we’ll get a few more in here, who knows?” said Shawn Kain, event organizer. “But, you know, we want to let people know that there’s plenty of shaded seating. it’s supposed to be nice, whether we’re open, rain or shine.”

Community members who have been coming to the festival since 2010 say regardless of your heritage, everyone has a Celtic side to them this weekend.

“I do have a little bit of Celtic Heritage. I love the Celtic heritage and the music,” said Walter Grudowski, attendee. “There is a lot of people, diversity that are coming here, various cultures, different backgrounds, enjoying the Celtic heritage. I mean, it’s there to be shared. Having it shut off to certain people is wrong, sharing it with everybody that’s what the heritage is all about.”

And the festival has something for everyone with over 40 different merchandise vendors and 20 food stalls and trucks.

This year, there are six headliner bands — five of which are returning favorites including Socks in the Frying Pan. And one new headliner this year, Jigjam, is from Ireland, giving an Irish take on bluegrass.

Attendees can also enjoy live Irish dancing on one of the three stages of entertainment.

McGovern Irish Dance is one of the acts performing, and their dancers say it’s always a great time to perform at Celtic Fest.

“I love making people smile and meeting new friends here,” said Eloise Campbell, McGovern Irish Dancer. “What I love about Celtic Fest is seeing all the people and how they’re all clapping. And also hanging out with my best friend and the food, I love the food.”
