DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Here are a few things to keep in mind as the tax free holiday kicks off at midnight on Tuesday, July 30.

This years tax free holiday will be available to residents for longer than usual as it is expected to last through Thursday, Aug. 8.

The tax free holiday is arriving at an opportune time for Ohio families looking to purchase classroom supplies for their children as the school year approaches.

A few items of note regarding eligibility requirements:

    • Exemptions can be applied to most items that are valued at a price less than $500.
    • Items priced out beyond $500, as well as watercrafts, motor vehicles, alcohol, vapes and marijuana are not eligible for tax exemption.
    • Layaway items are eligible for tax-free exemptions.
    • Raincheck items are eligible as long as those rainchecks are redeemed before the holiday period ends.
    • Purchases made online, by mail, telephone or e-mail are eligible as long as they are paid for during the holiday period.
    • Food consumed at the space at which it is sold is eligible for tax exemption as long as the individual item is under $500. For example, a total check may be over $500, but if each item on the check was under that $500 amount then the entire order would be tax free.
