Update: 7:30 p.m.: It seems residents without power will no longer have to be concerned about severe weather making things even worse.

The National Weather Service has canceled the severe thunderstorm watch that was previously issued in Northern Kentucky early Wednesday afternoon.

Update, 7 p.m.: The Duke Energy outage map shows that the estimated restoration time has been extended to 9:45 p.m.

Previous coverage: Over 1,000 Northern Kentucky households are without power Wednesday afternoon, according to an alert Duke Energy.

The Duke Energy outage map shows that 1,147 households are without power, primarily in the city of Dayton, just east of Bellevue.

The outage was first reported just after 3:30 p.m. and the estimated restoration time is now 8:15 p.m., but that is subject to change, the alert said.

The cause of the outage is unknown at this time, according to the outage map.

The outage comes after Northern Kentucky was placed under a severe thunderstorm watch by the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Quarter-size hail , scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph and frequent lightning are possible through 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The Enquirer will update this story when more information becomes available.
