DAYTON — Dayton City School in Tennessee kicked off Literacy Month with a bang on Feb. 29, hosting a vibrant Literacy Night event that drew over 130 students along with their families.

The evening featured diverse literacy activities such as reading stations, storytelling sessions, and interactive games, fostering a love for reading and learning among attendees. The enthusiastic participation underscored the community’s dedication to education.

“The school extends gratitude to its staff and faculty for their hard work in making the event a success,” Dayton City School Superintendent Trish Newsom said. “As Literacy Month continues, Dayton City School remains steadfast in its mission to empower students with the lifelong gift of reading.”

Continuing the literacy celebration on March 18, Dayton City School welcomed a special guest, Riley the Raccoon, to engage Pre-K through second-grade classrooms. Riley, accompanied by Donna Shope from the Tennessee Department of Education, shared the importance of reading and storytelling with students, igniting excitement and passion for literacy.

“This event exemplifies the school’s commitment to providing enriching educational experiences for its students, further reinforcing the value of literacy in their lives,” Newsom said.
