DAYTON — Tickets for the 2024 Scopes Trial play Destiny in Dayton are on sale early, in response to a sell-out last summer, and the show schedule has been expanded.

Rhea Heritage Preservation Foundation officials announced sales began in early December, looking ahead to July 2024’s play dates of July 12-13 and 19-20.

“With the successful run in 2023, we made the decision to expand to five performances over two weekends,” Rick Dye, RHPF president, said. “In addition, we are offering a special dinner with the cast for our guests who attend the final performance on July 20.”

The expanded schedule for the Scopes Trial Play & Heritage Days includes a full day of festivities on the courthouse yard on Saturday, July 13. Games for the whole family, craft demonstrations, food vendors and a classic car cruise-in will be on hand, with most activities free.

July 20 will feature a lecture/discussion on “Science at the Scopes Trial and Since” at 11 a.m., followed by the play at 2 p.m. Also on hand will be a number of authors of books and articles about the trial, including some local authors.

Tickets for play performances on July 12, 13 and 19 are $30. Tickets for Saturday, July 20, are $90, and include dinner with the cast on the courthouse lawn. Entertainment for the dinner will be provided by Scenic City Sound, featuring a classic big band and swing repertoire.
