DAYTON — On Monday, the Dayton City Council voted to move forward with plans to eventually allow a new bait and tackle shop and restaurant to move into the Dayton Boat Dock location.

In a unanimous vote, the city council voted to allow Dayton City Manager David Shinn to move forward with negotiations with Billy Hall to eventually occupy the boat dock.

Shinn said that the location will house a bait and tackle shop, as well as a restaurant. Shinn noted that HVAC system will likely need to be repaired or replaced but added that any costs associated with the repair or replacement could be paid for with hotel/motel tax revenue, which is earmarked for economic development.

Dayton Vice Mayor Steve Randolph motioned to allow negotiations to move forward, and the motion passed unanimously.

In other business on Monday, the city council voted to allow RC3 and the Rhea County Boys and Girls Club to use the area near Gabbbert Field on Sunday, June 9, for a free youth rally open to all Rhea County school-aged children and teenagers.

“This event will be hosted by Monkeytown Inflatables and Destin to Chill,” Rhea County Boys and Girls Club Unit Director Nicki Bentley said. “The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region-Rhea Unit and RC3 will also be participating with our boards, volunteers and children.”

The event will have approximately eight inflatables, Bentley said, and Destin to Chill will also be on location providing ice cream to the students as well. She said that RC3 and the Boys and Girls Clubs will be onsite providing music and bottled water as well as some small games to occupy the parents.

The Dayton City Council will meet next on Monday, June 3, at around 6 p.m. at the Dayton Municipal Building, located at 399 First Ave., Dayton, TN, 37321. The meeting is open to the public.
