DAYTONA BEACH — Land is being cleared for the first of at least two locations here for a popular coffee chain from the Pacific Northwest .

    No, not Starbucks.

The chain that plans to soon open its first locations in Daytona Beach is called Dutch Bros Coffee. Exactly when those locations will open has yet to be announced.

"At this time, we're in the early stages for Daytona Beach, so we don't have anything to share at time this," wrote Dutch Bros spokeswoman Allissan <cq> Speidel, in an email to The Daytona Beach News-Journal on July 2.

    Where are they going?

The chain's website already includes 1431 Beville Road in Daytona Beach as one of its "opening soon!" locations. Site work is already underway on the roughly 2.45 acre vacant lot located directly west of the 7-Eleven on the southwest corner of Beville and Clyde Morris Boulevard.

Preliminary plans have also been submitted to the City of Daytona Beach for a potential Dutch Bros Coffee that would become part of a new retail center called Ridgewood Park on the north side of LPGA Boulevard, between Williamson and Clyde Morris boulevards. Land is currently being cleared for that project as well.

Here's what we know about the Oregon-based chain:

    What is Dutch Bros?

According to its website, Dutch Bros Coffee was founded in February 1992 in downtown Grants Pass, Oregon. Its first location was a push cart operated by two brothers of Dutch descent, Dane and Travis Boersma. They previously worked in the dairy business.

Note: The word "Bros" in its name is pronounced "broze," not "brothers."

Today, the chain has grown to more than 900 "quick service" drive-through locations in 18 states.

In Florida, the closest Dutch Bros location to Daytona Beach is currently roughly 46 miles away at 116 S. Semoran Blvd. in Winter Park.

In addition to coffee drinks, Dutch Bros sells smoothies, lemonade and other caffeinated drinks as well as baked goods including cookies and granola bars.

    What's on the menu?

A look at the menu on its website shows "Dutch Faves" such as an iced caramel mocha coffee drink called the "Carmelizer," a vanilla and caramel coffee drink with a caramel drizzle called the "Golden Eagle," protein coffee drinks, shakes with names such as "Cotton Candy" (blue raspberry and white chocolate) and the "Ninja" (creme de menthe and white chocolate), energy drinks, blended freeze drinks, lemonades, iced tea, chai lattes, and seasonal drinks.

Its baked good offerings include a chocolate chip muffin top, a lemon poppy seed muffin top, and an orange cranberry muffin top.

    They believe in giving back

The company's motto is "To make a difference one cup at a time," according to its website, which notes the chain's commitment to charity work. "Every year the company holds its annual 'Drink One for Dane' fundraiser in honor of co-founder Dane Boersma, who died of Lou Gehrig's Disease in 2009 at the age of 55," the website states.

"In addition to its mission of speed, quality and service, Dutch Bros is committed to giving back to the communities it serves," wrote Speidel. "Through its Dutch Bros Foundation and local operators and franchisees, the company donates several million dollars to causes across the country each year."

Its CEO was featured on 'Undercover Boss'

CEO Travis Boersma appeared on the CBS reality television show "Undercover Boss" in 2013. According to a report by Dailycoffeenews.com in November of that year, Boersma went undercover as a plantation worker at one of his company's coffee suppliers in El Salvador, as well as a barista (known at Dutch Bros as a "broista") at some of the chain's retail locations in the U.S., and as a roaster at the company's headquarters plant.

How many jobs do its retail locations create?

"On average, we hire about 40 people and we usually have two (drive-through) lanes at our locations," wrote Speidel.
