    Volusia-Flagler High School Athlete of the Week poll: May 20

    The polls are open!

    It's time to vote for the Volusia-Flagler Athlete of the Week for the week of May 13-18. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.

    Last week, Spruce Creek softball player Alexis Minaberry took home the honors, claiming 68% of the votes.

    The News-Journal gathers nominees from scores and stats emailed to the sports desk during the week by coaches across the area. Coaches can email nominees to cvinel@gannett.com.

    Voting will close at 10 a.m. Thursday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour.

    Softball

    Adalyn Morford, Spruce Creek: The freshman had two of the Hawks' four hits in their 3-1 loss to Seminole in the Region 1-7A semifinals.

    Track and field

    Mackenzie Brewton, Father Lopez: The junior set a new personal record in the shot put with a heave of 11.34 meters to take third place at the 1A state meet.

    Colby Cronk, Flagler Palm Coast: The junior won the 4A state shot put title with the 10th farthest throw in Florida high school history (19.22 meters). He also finished as the discus runner-up with a new PR of 56.06 meters.

    MaKenna Estes, New Smyrna Beach: The senior became the Barracudas' first female track and field champion since 1987, clearing 3.75 meters in the pole vault at the 3A meet.

    Preston Kuznof, Atlantic: The senior broke the state championship record for all classes with a javelin throw of 64.36 meters at the 2A meet.

    Marquis McCants, Mainland: The senior turned in a personal-best 14.12 meters in the triple jump, good for fourth place at the 3A state meet. He added a ninth-place finish in the long jump.

    Kylie Neira, DeLand: The junior defended her 4A state pole vaulting title with a top jump of 3.9 meters.

    Mackenzie Roy, Spruce Creek: Roy ranked second in the 1,600-meter run with a new PR of 4:54.86 at the 4A state meet. She also was the runner-up in the 3,200 (11:01.13).

    Elijah Thompson, Pine Ridge: The senior anchored the Panthers' first state-qualifying 4X100-meter relay team at the 3A meet. They slotted 11th, crossing the line in 42.04 seconds.
