State Road A1A will be closed from just north of State Road 100 to South Sixth Street in Flagler Beach on or about Thursday as part of the beach renourishment project.

The road closure is expected to last two to four hours and a detour will be in place, according to a press release from Julie Murphy, the communications coordinator for Flagler County.

The road will be closed so that equipment can be moved as part of the renourishment project , Murphy wrote.

The closure had been planned for Aug. 18 but was delayed due to the passing of Hurricane Ernesto far offshore.

Crews will remove part of the boardwalk adjacent to State Road A1A and replace it with a temporary sand ramp for equipment to cross.

“Once the machinery and equipment are on the beach, ground mats and debris will be removed but the sand ramp will remain in place until the equipment is returned south for demobilization. The boardwalk will be replaced at that time,” Murphy wrote.

Residents may use other areas of the beach and should be “extremely cautious in the construction area,” Murphy wrote.
