'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' stars check out Buc-ee's while in Daytona for '90s Con

Where does the cast of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” go when they visit Daytona Beach?

Buc-ee's, of course.

Nate Richert, who played Harvey Kinkle for most of the show’s seven-season run, spoke to The News-Journal during ‘90s Con at the Ocean Center last weekend and said there was one place he definitely wanted to see while he was in town.

“Tell me, I can’t think of the name. It’s like a barbeque-ish, gas station — you know what I’m talking about? The guy sitting next to me on the airplane told me I had to go to it. People went there last night. It’s a name, it’s a person’s name.”

Or a beaver’s name.

“Buc-ee's. That’s where I’m gonna go.”

Richert said his former co-star, Jenna Leigh Green, who played Libby Chessler on the TGIF headliner, went shopping at the mega gas station/convenience store while in town for the convention and others were talking about the one-stop shop since his arrival.

“I want to check it out,” he said. “I’ve been told by everybody!”

The next generation is watching ‘Sabrina’

While the show aired its final episode more than 20 years ago, it's widely available on streaming platforms and has found a new audience in today's younger generations.

Richert said fans who watched the show back in the '90s have introduced it to their kids and now it's something they watch together.

"The way it was written, it was always family-oriented, even when it first came out, it brought families together to sit around the television kind of the way the ‘80s shows were for me," he said. "I watched 'Roseanne' and 'Cheers' and it was something that would bring the whole family together to watch. And I just don’t think there’s a lot of shows like that anymore. Which is sad in a way because it did, it really it brought families together."

He said one time he met a grandmother who watch "Sabrina" with her daughter, who then introduced it to her daughter, and then the three of them came to a '90s Con.

"So it's three generations who came together over it, so it's really sweet," he said.

Meeting fans at '90s Con

Richert said 99% of the time, meeting fans from the show is "amazing."

"There’s that 1% of the time that somebody’s walking by looking at my picture going 'Who’s that?' But other than that, everybody here is so sweet, the fans are great," he said. "Some of the actors get a little scared to do these things because they don’t know how it’s gonna go, but every single one of these has been beautiful."

When the cast gets together for the convention, it’s a "time warp," he said.

"It really is. It’s right back to then — we’re telling stories things that we didn’t even remember and all of a sudden, oh remember the time … you get pulled right back in, and to have the fans here, it’s just really good feeling, it’s a great feeling."
