( WHTM ) – The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall notice for 1.1 million Samsung slide-in electric ranges after reports that people — and pets — had unintentially activated the stovetops.

Specifically, the front-mounted knobs on the electric slide-in range models can be activated by “accidental contact by humans or pets,” which poses a potential fire hazard, the notice states.

To date, Samsung has received over 300 reports of unintentional activation of the front-mounted knobs by humans and pets since 2013. The ranges involved in the recall have been involved in about 250 fires.

CPSC says that at least 18 of these fires caused extensive property damage, and about 40 injuries have been reported. Additionally, there have been reports of seven fires resulting in the death of pets.
