    PHOTOS | Bel Air house leveled, 2 dead after explosion, officials say

    BEL AIR, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Investigators with the Maryland State Fire Marshal are continuing to examine the scene in a Bel Air neighborhood after an explosion leveled a home and killed two people Sunday morning.

    The Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association said that at around 6:40 a.m., volunteer firefighters from the Abingdon Fire Company responded to the 2300 block of Arthur Woods Drive when they discovered a leveled home.

    The Associated Press reported that firefighters were initially called to the area for a report of a gas leak and an outdoor gas odor, according to Oliver Alkire, a master deputy with the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

    The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal confirmed that 35-year-old Jose Rodriguez-Alvarado, a BGE utility worker, died in the blast. The office also identified the other man killed as the 73-year-old homeowner, Ray Corkran Jr.

    As of Sunday afternoon, investigators from the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal were on the scene trying to determine the origin and cause of the explosion. During the investigation, officials said there was no evidence of criminal activity.

    Officials also continued to look for potential victims with the assistance of K9 teams trained in human scent.

    The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal said 12 families were displaced as a result of the explosion.

    As of Monday, the exact cost of damage has not yet been released, but officials said it is expected to be in the millions.

    The Hartford County Government has directed those who sustained damage or other pertinent information to file an online request .
