    Woman dead, another hurt after tree falls onto Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City

    HOWARD COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Police in Howard County said a woman died and another was injured after a tree fell into the road and hit two cars in Ellicott City on Sunday evening.

    According to the Howard County Police Department (HCPD), just after 5:30 p.m., a woman was driving west on the Baltimore National Pike, just past the Baltimore County line, when a tree fell onto her car. The tree then struck a second car.

    Police said the woman who was in the first car died at the scene.

    The driver of the second vehicle was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

    HCPD said the Baltimore National Pike was closed for about four hours on Sunday but has since reopened.

    The investigation is ongoing.
