WESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — One of West Virginia’s most famous spooky locations will be getting some national attention later this week.

According to a release, Discovery’s “Expedition X” will debut its eighth season on Wednesday with a trip to Weston’s Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. The show features a team of paranormal investigators who “dive into the stranger side of the unknown, seeking the truth behind the world’s eeriest supernatural mysteries.”

The season premiere will be a two-part investigation where the team will discover “shocking secrets from the asylum’s sinister past and battle frightening forces beyond our understanding,” the release said.

Since reopening as a tourist attraction, the asylum has been the subject of many paranormal investigations and mysteries, including one in June where security footage captured after-hours shows items falling off of a shelf with no apparent cause behind it.

The Expedition X crew has visited West Virginia before; the Mountain State was actually the subject of the show’s first-ever episode when the investigators traveled to Point Pleasant in search of Mothman.

You can catch the premiere on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 9 p.m. on Discovery Channel, Discovery+ and Max.
