HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. ( DC News Now ) — If you are into music, a great way to wind down the summer season is to take in the performances of the Appalachian Chamber Music Festival this weekend.

Concerts are slated for Frederick, Md., Harpers Ferry, Charles Town and Shepherdstown.

The talented musicians are devoting their concerts to a celebration of the Niagara Movement, the inspiration for the NAACP, which has roots in Harpers Ferry’s historic Storer College.

Concertgoers can expect to hear jazz, classical favorites and modern-day popular themes.

“The theme of the festival is voice,” said singer Tom Coltman. “There are voices from around the world, different creative voices. The group of musicians here are just incredible players.”

Rufus Reed, who has recorded more than 500 albums since the 1970s, will be a featured performer at this year’s festival.
