FREDERICK COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Officials said that two people died after a crash near the Frederick County Fairgrounds in Virginia on Tuesday.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) said that units responded to the 3000 block of Martinsburg Pike near Stonewall Elementary School just before 3 p.m. for a two-vehicle crash.

First responders had to rescue two people from the vehicles, which FCSO said were “badly damaged.”

Man forced way into Loudoun County Public Defender’s Office, threatened official, police say

One of the drivers — 58-year-old Daniel Dickerson of Clear Brook — was taken to Winchester Medical Center, where he died due to his injuries.

The other driver, 47-year-old Sarah Zirkle of Winchester, died there.

FCSO investigators said that Zirkle was driving southbound on Route 11 when Dickerson hit her head-on. Officials believe that Dickerson ended up driving in the opposite direction of traffic.
