    MPD: 18-year-old charged for shooting man multiple times in DC, killing him

    WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said an 18-year-old man has been arrested for fatally shooting another man from Maryland in Northeast D.C. back in April.

    MPD said the shooting happened on April 25, at around 12:30 a.m. Officers responded to the 4500 block of Sheriff Road and found a man who had been shot multiple times.

    The man, 38-year-old Ricky Canty, of Temple Hills, Md., was taken to the hospital where he later died.

    This shooting was among a few others to happen that night where three others were killed and another person was hurt.

    On Aug. 14, MPD officers arrested 18-year-old Jaylen Suggs and charged him with first-degree murder while armed (felony murder).

    At the time of the shooting, Suggs was 17 years old but he will be charged as an adult.
