    Weather Flash: Recap of Debby’s impact in the DMV

    WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — It’s been over a week since the remnants of Debby moved through the DMV.

    Heavy downpours, gusty winds, and a few tornadoes were recorded as Debby moved into the area. In all The National Weather Service issued 20 tornado warnings for the DMV.

    Three of these were confirmed tornadoes in Stafford County, Va., Berkeley County, WV, and Loudoun/Clarke Counties Va.

    The first tornado that touched down in the DMV from the leftovers of Debby happened in Stafford County at about 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, August 8.

    The tornado was on the ground for about 12 minutes.

    The National Weather Service rated the tornado as an EF-1 on Enhanced Fujita Scale. Winds in the tornado peaked at 90 mph and traveled for about 7.1 miles.

    The second tornado that touched down started in Loudoun County and tracked into Clarke County.

    This tornado was also rated as an EF-1 with winds peaking at 100 mph. The tornado roughly touched down at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, August 8.

    The tornado was on the ground for about 11 minutes and traveled about 4.7 miles.

    The final tornado was reported in Berkeley County at around 11:50 p.m. Thursday, August 8, and was on the ground for about two minutes and traveled half of a mile.

    This tornado was on the lower end of the scale rating at EF-0. Winds peaked at 80 mph.

    The rainfall that came with Debby did help out locations across portions of the west that were in extreme drought conditions.

    There were 16 flash flood warnings issued across the area as Debby moved through the area.

    With the D.C. metro area experiencing 2-3″ of rain, with Ronald Reagan Airport receiving 2.88″ or rain.

    Out of the 16 flash flood warnings issued for the entire area, five of them affected the D.C. metro and surrounding areas.
