Within three minutes, officers arrived at the 5100 block of Maris Ave and found Behan, who exited his apartment and went into the stairwell holding a gun.

According to APD, officers negotiated with Behan for more than 30 minutes and attempted to de-escalate the situation.

Police said they pleaded with Behan several times to drop the gun, but were unsuccessful.
