LOGAN COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Folks in Logan County got a surprise on their way to work this morning.

While it may be normal to see cats or dogs, as well as deer and other wildlife roaming around the roadways, one thing drivers wouldn’t expect in the West Virginia coalfields is a kangaroo on the road!

That’s exactly what happened when a pet kangaroo got out and was seen near the Mud Fork Road and Mustang Hill Road areas of Verdunville in Logan County. One viewer shared a photo of the kangaroo near the intersection of the two roads.

WOWK 13 News also reached out to The Critter Connection veterinary clinic, whose owners have kangaroos. They told us that while this guy was not one of their kangaroos, they do know his owners who were able to catch him and get him back home.

The Logan County Dog Pound told 13 News that they’d received reports about the runaway marsupial. They said if the owners had not been able to catch the kangaroo, they would have gone out on the call to help get him home, though they said they hadn’t had the experience of rounding up a kangaroo before.

For anyone wondering, kangaroos are not on the list of animals prohibited in West Virginia . To see more about what pets are banned in each state, click here.
