    West Virginia’s eastern panhandle prepares for 71st annual Jefferson County Fair

    JEFFERSON COUNTY, W.Va. ( DC News Now ) — On Friday, volunteers in Jefferson County were working to put the finishing touches on show barns, carnival rides, livestock exhibits and craft displays.

    The 71st annual Jefferson County Fair kicks off Sunday and runs through August 24.

    It’s tons of fun for the family, but volunteers devote countless hours over the week of the fair to help raise funds for community causes throughout the year.

    “We put back into the community,” saidBob Brown, a volunteer with the South Jefferson Ruritan. “We give to food banks, community ministries, hospice and partner with a couple of local elementary schools.”

    During the fair, youth groups like the 4-H clubs and Future Farmers of America showcase projects they have been working on throughout the summer.
