MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — A kitten in Takoma Park has been given a second chance after being rescued from the undercarriage of a car on Sunday.

Officer Haines of the Takoma Park Police Department stepped in to help a driver after they heard tiny meows coming from under their car.

Haines removed a tire from the car and found the small kitten hiding in its undercarriage. Haines adopted the kitten, who is now safe and sound.

In an update Sunday night, the department said Haines named his new sidekick Oliver after the classic Disney film “Oliver and Company,” in which a small orange orphaned cat joins a gang of dogs. However, some officers have nicknamed him “MotorKat”.

“Oliver will never be short of good company at the station or home. At six weeks old and weighing in at 1.16 lbs, Oliver is healthy but definitely in need of a bath,” the department said in a social media post.
