New playground, pavilion opening at Snow Hill Waterfront Park in Mechanicsville

LEONARDTOWN, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The St. Mary’s County Recreation and Parks department ( R&P ) is excited to announce that a new playground will open at the Snow Hill Waterfront Park on Tuesday.

On Aug. 20, the county is inviting the community to celebrate the ribbon cutting on the new playground and picnic pavilion.

Starting at 1:30 p.m., the first 50 children will get a ticket for a free cup of “back-to-school ice cream” from Leonardtown’s Salted Scoop . Ice cream will also be available for $6 per scoop.

The 163-acre waterfront park first opened in 2017 but closed for renovations. It has scenic views of the Patuxent River, fishing, and canoe and kayak launches.
