Happy International Dog Day! Here’s how to celebrate

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Calling all dog lovers to the forefront! Aug. 26 marks International Dog Day, a celebration of our four-legged best friends who have impacted our lives.

Starting in 2004, the day celebrates all breeds and highlights the number of dogs that need to be rescued and find their fur-ever homes.

Since then, shelters, animal hospitals and families have celebrated the day, taking the time to show off their pooches.

Organizers said one way to celebrate International Dog Day is to help clear the shelters by adopting a dog or buying your furry friends a new toy.
