WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — DC Fire and EMS (DCFD) crews were at the scene of a fire in Northeast, which started just before 3 p.m. on Monday.

Crews responded to a two-story building in the 2500 block of Bladensburg Road NE. There, units found a fire in the basement and first floor.

EMS units evaluated one person at the scene, who declined further treatment.

The basement fire proved difficult to control, so firefighters were removed from the structure and prepared using a cellar pipe to attack the fire.

Two engines and another truck were requested to help at the scene.

Eventually, the fire broke through to the first floor, leading crews to conduct an exterior defensive attack.

Just after 4:40 p.m., DCFD said they were using a variety of large water streams to attack the fire from outside. They breached the walls to the basement and applied water through those holes to tackle the fire in the lower level.
