UPPER MARLBORO, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Many DMV athletes competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, from swimming to fencing and boxing.

When DC News Now spoke to Oxon Hill boxer Jahmal Harvey, he was still in awe over his experience a few weeks ago.

“It hit me like two days ago when I posted on my [Instagram] story like, I really went to the Olympics,” said Harvey.

The young boxer has been making a lot of noise in the boxing world. Now, his recognition has reached athletes outside of the ring – one of which also happens to come from the DMV.

“Kevin Durant – I talked to him.” said Harvey “He even knew about me.”

Harvey remembered the boat ride during the opening ceremony, being under the same roof as some legendary athletes and the inspiration he took just from being there. He also remembered how well the athletes were being treated in Paris, along with the work ethic of the athletes around him.

Harvey wasn’t able to medal in Paris, but is taking this as a lesson and more motivation for the 2028 games in Los Angeles.

“One of my goals is to get back to the Olympics,” he stated with confidence. “Next time I know what to expect, I know it can be done…I did it once, I know I can do it, I know what I need to do.”

Harvey continues his homecoming and will be celebrated at the Tanger Outlets in National Harbor on Saturday, Aug. 31 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
